Joe E Brown Awarded to Tony Torres at West Covina Youth Pony Baseball's Opening Day

PONY Baseball and Softball annually presents the Joe E. Brown Fellowship Award to deserving candidate(s) in recognition and dedication to the support of PONY Baseball and Softball and the ideal development of youth through the medium of organized athletics. This award is named in memory of PONY's first President Joe E. Brown who, thanks to his influence as a famous comedian and actor, spent many years during PONY's infancy growing the program across the country and world.

Please join me in recognizing Tony Torres who has been an instrumental part of Pony Baseball for over the past 20+ years. In 1999, Tony joined West Covina Youth Pony Baseball when he started coaching his grandson in the Pinto Division. Tony eventually join the Board of Directors while continuing to coach many of his grandchildren. Even after his last grandson graduated from the program, Tony continued to volunteer with West Covina Youth PONY Baseball in various capacities and in the League's history Tony has earned the distinction as being the longest active Board Member.

Tony is a retired Master Mechanic with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He is also a highly decorated United State Air Force combat veteran, having proudly served during the Vietnam War. A proud father, grandfather and great grandfather of three daughters, ten grandchildren and one great grand-grandchild. There is only one thing Tony has more passion for than his Dallas Cowboys or Los Angeles Dodgers and that is West Covina Youth Pony Baseball and Walmerado Park, which he considers his home away from home.

Thank you Tony for all you have done and continue to do for PONY Baseball, West Covina Youth Pony Baseball and our community.
